US Authorizes Billions in Potential Military Sales to Egypt, Kuwait, UAE

(MENAFN) The US State Department has cleared three potential foreign military sales to Egypt, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates with a combined estimated value of about $2.27 billion.

The largest proposed deal involves the UAE, which could receive Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II guidance sections and associated equipment in a package valued at approximately $1.041 billion.

The UAE "has requested to buy up to ten thousand (10,000) Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II guidance sections consisting of a combination of air-to-air and air-to-ground configurations," according to the department.

Egypt has received approval for a potential $832 million deal involving Javelin missile systems.

Under the proposed sale, Cairo has requested up to 2,020 Javelin FGM-148F missiles, including 20 fly-to-buy missiles, as well as as many as 200 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units.

Kuwait is also set to receive a possible $400 million package covering Patriot missile repair and return services along with related equipment.

The proposed arms deals come more than seven months after the Iran war began on Feb. 28, when the US and Israel launched coordinated attacks against Iran.

Iran responded by striking US military bases in Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
